PLB3 sends a distress signal via 400 MHz satellite network (Cospas-Sarsat) and also AIS messages, which means that it can be tracked both by international rescue services and by boats in the vicinity that have an AIS on board. PLB3 has RLS function which shows that the emergency call and the position have been received by the emergency services. This is indicated by a flashing blue LED on the PLB.
